3D Movie History
3D movies have been around since the 1890s. But according to Wikipedia, the first commercial 3D movie was shown in 1922. It was named ‘The Power of Love” and was also the first known movie to use anaglyph methods for creating its visual depth. It used dual strip projection, and the audience had to wear special anaglyph glasses. During the next couple of years, a small handful of directors and producers experimented with producing 3D films, but they all used different systems and productions methods.
Help for motion-sick 3D movie goers
Wilhelmina Cottman just loved Avatar, absolutely raves about the film and says she’ll see it again.
Yet as she ambled out of the Esquire Imax Theatre in California, after a recent matinee, she felt a little unsteady on her feet. Watching the large blue aliens in 3-D made her, well, a little green. As in queasy. As in nauseated.
Cottman is one of a minority of moviegoers who experience motion sickness while sitting through films that are shown on giant Imax screens or that use three-dimensional imagery, or both. These are some of the same people, experts say, who feel ill on boats or while trying to read in the back seat of a car.
What goes on in the brain during a 3D movie?
This question gets at the heart of what’s interesting and exciting about three-dimensional (3D) movies. They absolutely affect your children’s experience of movie, much as they affect yours. Why? Because the more heavily the brain is involved with sensory motor processing, the less energy it has for other tasks.
To understand why that’s true, look at something a certain distance from yourself with just one eye, and then the other; it will appear to move. That’s because you are constantly synthesizing the two different two-dimensional (2D) images from your two eyes into a single 3D image. The way a 3D movie works is that two separate 2D images are projected onscreen at the same time. The glasses you wear block out one image or the other so that each eye sees only what was designed for it to see, which helps your brain combine them into one 3D image.
Addams Family In 3D
Addams Famly
According to Deadline New York Burton will direct a 3D stop-motion animated film based on Charles Addams’ original cartoon drawings of The Addams Family for Universal’s family film unit Illumination Entertainment!
Choosing to base the movie around Addams’ original artwork, which was a staple of The New Yorker magazine for many years, instead of following along the TV series or even the route the movies took is likely to bring us one hell of an entertaining time as Charles Addams had an extremely macabre sense of humor. Couple that with Burton’s? This is gonna be good!
